The Center for Latin American Studies sponsors a wide variety of major academic conferences and symposia in order to advance innovative research on Latin America and foster dialogue between faculty and practitioners from various disciplinary and professional fields.

  • Friday, October 24 - Saturday, October 25, 2008: "Hemi-Chicago: The Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics"
  • Friday, November 7, 2008: "Reflections on Latin American Studies:1968-2008", commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Center for Latin American Studies
  • Friday, January 9 - Saturday, January 10, 2009: "Internationalizing Machado de Assis"
  • May, 2009 (dates TBD): "Coping with Hyperinflation and Crisis in Latin America: The Weight of Orthodox vis-a-vis Heterodox Polities"
