Student Grants & Fellowships
CLAS awards grants to graduate students in support of preliminary field research for site assessment, data collection, archival research, and to establish professional and institutional contacts, in addition to teaching assistantships in selected Latin American content courses.Our students have enjoyed unparalleled success leveraging summer Field Research and FLAS grants to win major external fellowship support for field research such as the prestigious Fulbright-Hays and Fulbright-IIE fellowships. - The CLAS Field Research Grant (formerly Tinker) supports master's, doctoral, and professional school students conducting preliminary fieldwork in Latin America or Iberia.
- The Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship (also known as FLAS or Title VI) is an award for students concentrating in modern foreign language and international or area studies.
- Undergraduate International Travel Grants: F. Champion Ward Third Year International Travel Grants support students conducting summer research outside the U.S. for the BA thesis.
- Ignacio Martín Baró Prize Lectureship in Latin American Politics/Human Rights supports the teaching of an undergraduate course on a political issue or question pertaining to Latin America.
- Teaching Assistantship and BA Preceptorship: CLAS appoints advanced graduate student Teaching Assistants for the Introduction to Latin American Civilizations course sequence, and for the Preceptorship for the BA Colloquium in Latin American Studies.
- The Foreign Language Acquistion Grant (FLAG) awards summer international travel grants to support undergraduate language study or research abroad. This program is administered by the College.
