The Illinois Portuguese Language Connection—coordinated by Ana Lima (Romance Languages and Literatures) along with her colleagues Ana Clotilde Thome-Williams from Northwestern University and Raquel Goebel from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign—has been awarded the 2017 American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese (AOTP) Award for Educational Initiative/Project in the US.
The Illinois Portuguese Language Connection, an annual event that rotates among the three university campuses, brings together Portuguese language students for a day of learning and fun. Its main goal is to connect students through language and culture, and to raise awareness of the rich cultures of Portuguese speaking countries. The event was launched in Fall 2014.
The award will be presented at a formal ceremony in May. The AOTP awards for excellence in the teaching of Portuguese in the US have been awarded since 2009.
CLAS congratulates Ana and her colleagues on this honor!
