Faculty and students at the University of Chicago benefit enormously from the presence of outstanding scholars, teachers, and practitioners regularly hosted by the Center for Latin American Studies. Visiting scholars, in turn, benefit from access to University of Chicago academic community.
Tinker Visiting Professorship Endowment
With support from an endowment from the Tinker Foundation, each year the Center for Latin American Studies hosts at least three senior scholars or professionals from Latin American and/or the Iberian Peninsula to teach and conduct research at the University of Chicago as a Tinker Visiting Professors. Spring:
Summer Visiting Scholars Research Grant
The UI-UC Consortium for Latin American Studies conducts an annual Summer Visiting Scholars Competition for faculty from non-research U.S. universities and colleges. Recipients research and write on a Latin American topic for one month during the summer at the Urbana/Champaign and/or University of Chicago campus and enjoy access to university libraries and resources. Awards for 2006 included a stipend of $2,500 for residence at Urbana or $3,000 for residence at University of Chicago, and up to $500 for travel to and from the recipient's home institution to either school.
