Join us on Tuesday January, 28 to learn more about the Tinker Field Research Grant. We will discuss proposal requirements, travel and budget planning, and answer your questions about the grant, application process, and research experience.
The CLAS Tinker Field Research Grant (CLAS TFRG) supports master’s, doctoral, and professional school students conducting pre-dissertation fieldwork in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries of the Western Hemisphere, excluding Puerto Rico, providing an opportunity to establish professional and institutional contacts, assess potential research sites, and refine the dissertation project proposal. On average, CLAS awards 16-18 grants per year.
Recipients of the CLAS Tinker Field Research Grant have enjoyed notable success in competing for dissertation research support, including Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowships, Social Science Research Council Dissertation Fellowships, and Wenner-Gren grants. Students returning from research trips advance scholarship on Latin America through presentations of their findings in the Center for Latin American Studies Tinker Field Research Grant Colloquium Series. Award recipients are selected from among all divisions and professional schools of the University of Chicago. Applicants must be degree-seeking graduate students (MA or PHD) currently enrolled at the University of Chicago.
